Deep down, I knew he was gone.
His eyes were still open, and he still gasped for air, but he was gone. He turned to look me in the eyes, giving me the stare that always managed to make my heart leap even on the brink of death. His hand squeezed mine and then he was gone. The minutes seemed like ages as I watched the man I had once loved, slowly dissipate into dark abyss of death. No words could describe the torment my heart was going through. The man I dedicated myself to for years, was gone. The tears streamed down my face and silent sobs wracked my body. I yearned to hear his voice again, to feel his warmth, the feel of his lips against mine. But, he was in a better place, relieved of the suffering he felt in his last moments on earth. I liked to believe that the only good part of me died right with him.
My name is Roslyn Adams and this is the story of how I made it through life without the man I was so accustomed to loving.
